It was a horribly hot and humid weekend! (>_<“)
Headed to Johor over the weekend as our photos are ready for selection already! Both Beebops and I were a little excited and a little worried about how the pictures might turn out. Thankfully it turned out fine. 🙂
We had our lunch at Old Town White Coffee at City Square first.
The monkey with his funny faces while waiting for the food.
Mine was chicken char siew (roast meat) with dumpling noodles & his was Nasi Lemak.
And a cuppa Old Town White Coffee Gao (Strong) each to prepare us for the use of our concentration and eye power when choosing our pictures!
I enjoyed the photo selection process as we were both quite sure of what we didn’t want in our pictures and we agree on almost all the choices together.
We were given 141 pictures to select from and after close to three hours of choosing we made our choices. *gasp*
I wonder how long it would have taken if we had more differing views.
It was close to dinner time and we headed to a place which was recommended by my colleague.
The skewered BBQ food and Claypot Lou Xu Fun (老鼠粉） are their popular dishes.
So we ordered the recommended dishes and a plate of sweet potato leaves.
We waited quite long to be served our food as the place was rather packed. And we both got a little restless and was kind of spacing out as we were mentally tired from the photo selecting.
I am not too sure if I was due to that that the both of us felt that the food tasted normal and not really worth the wait.
The Claypot Lou Xu Fun had a good serving of minced & sliced meat and nicely braised Chinese mushrooms. The prawns used were not fresh prawns but were those that has been dried and soaked in brine before as it was dry and tasteless. The soup base of this claypot lou xu fun wasn’t as flavorful or tasty as it looks.
The sweet potato leaves was cooked with most of the stems which is usually removed as it is very tough and fibrous.
For the skewered BBQ food, we ordered prawns, chicken wings and abalone mushroom.
The mushroom & chicken wings tasted quite nice but the prawn was dry and not sweet tasting.
If you are in Johor and would like to try the food at the restaurant, below is the address.
It is along the street of The Store at Taman Sentosa, on the left hand side if you turned in from the main road.

And the inspiration was from Inspiration Monday…
I was in JB over the weekend and drove past a banner on the road which was for an event ” Street Food Festival”.
It sounded like a great place to head to for delicious Malaysian dishes and off we went.
We arrived at the location of the bazaar only to be greeted by cold gusts of wind and heavy rain. The rain dampened the mood significantly as there was much of a crowd and the tables prepared in the middle of the walk way were empty as it didn’t have much shelter over them.
The food stalls were lined up in tents stretching more than 300meters in distance. I didn’t managed to take much pictures as I was struggling to keep under the shelter of our umbrella and I couldn’t quite dig out my camera from my disorganized bag. If only it wasn’t raining so heavily when we first got to the Street Food Festival Fair, I would have bought more food to try and nibble on.
Only when we stopped at this fried rice stall to order our food did I take some pictures.
Opposite the fried rice stall was this sugar cane juice stall which looked like they have been juicing those canes to no end.
We found a table under a leaky shelter and ordered oyster omelette to complement our prawn fried rice.
When I mentioned that it was a leaky shelter, it wasn’t just droplets here and there. But it was a major leak like a mini waterfall!
The rain became a light drizzle and that was when we hear continuous loud explosive noises and they were having a fireworks display right above us!
The fireworks display went on for more than 10 minutes before heading back to the tents to finish up our food with smiles on our faces for the unexpected feast for our eyes.
At Jusco Tebrau City, we stumbled upon these Christmas hats that matched the outfits that we were wearing for the day!
I was so tempted to get this cute Christmas Tree hat!
My outfit for the day. I bought this t-shirt at the Disney Store when I was in Milan. Admittedly it is hardly an item that serves as a memento for Milan, but who could resist a Mickey T-shirt? :p I kinda miss Italy recently and hence decided to wear this Tshirt. I sure hope I wouldn’t reach out to this top everytime I start missing anything Italian!

Located slightly more than an hour away from the causeway, Desaru and Kota Tinggi is a popular location for many day trips to Malaysia.
It is also a popular location for couples who want a natural and vast open space as backdrop for their wedding photos.
After our filling breakfast, we took a very slow leisure drive to Kota Tinggi as the journey wasn’t going to be long and we still had a lot of time before we could check into our hotel.
Heading to Kota Tinggi is actually very easy as there are numerous signage like the ones below to lead you there. The rule of the thumb is when there is no signage just proceed ahead straight or look for the highway with the same number, in this case Highway <3>
In close to 1hr30mins, we arrived at Kota Tinggi town with too much time to spare before we can get our room!
As beebops and myself are still not so into such stuffs yet, we strolled through the neighbourhood to look for something to do or something interesting to look at. And the place of solace, Old Town Coffee again, not that I mind!
The boot was filled with the bathroom/sink stuffs and the Kitchen SInk couldn’t fit into the boot and it was on beano’s and lump’s lap the whole time back. It was a feat for them to wiggle in and out of the back seat when we went for dinner and to Tebrau City… Luckily we didn’t get stopped at the customs else it would have looked rather hilarious looking at the both of them climb out from the back seat from behind the sink!
I have been going into JB way too often these days. As we are on a mission to seek and hunt down the best bargains available for beano & lump’s new nest.
Furnishing in Malaysia is about half the price of that in Singapore and i guess it’s definitely worth the effort to travel across the causeway to save that couple of thousand dollars as every cent counts for almost every newly wed couple.
We had to fill our tummies up with delicious food before we go on our hunting trip and lunch was at Ah Koong Fishball Noodles.
They have a yong tau foo set that costs about RM6 but beebops opted additional oysters in his soup and it was RM10. For RM4 the serving of oysters were very generous and most important the oysters were fresh and very succulent! *yummy*
My favourite dish there is the deep fried fish cake. Urmm the two pieces you see here are the remnants from the two palm size pieces of fishcakes. I devoured it continuously until i realised i havent taken a picture of it.
Beano scoured the web for some furniture distributors in Malaysia. We went to about a lot of shops and showrooms. Some were too expensive by malaysia’s standards, some were poorly made and some were just not our cup of tea.
Our last stop was at Miva Furniture Design
And me and beebops were stuck there for 4-5hours. We were almost useless there not doing anything and not being able to give any opinions as we have not seen their new place. And seriously furniture shopping is not fun!
They finally purchased a sofa set from Miva. Beano said that it’s half the price of what she can get in singapore including all the delivery charges, custom charge and gst. amazing! But nonetheless beebops and i were bushed from the whole trip as we only left the showroom at 1030 and we haven’t taken our dinner!
finally i downloaded the software to help me edit my pictures effortlessly!
now i dont have to create a collage on my own!
Technology does kill creativity and cause brain cells to degenerate eh?
More pictures from me from now onwards!
On Beebops Bday, we hung out at JB and stayed over at Mutiara JB, which was next to Holiday Inn, pirated dvd haven! Very nice and clean i must say.
His birthday present to replace his existing green, peeling taiga cardholder!
Absolutely loved the smooth buttery leather of this card holder. Thanks Ms Serene Z for accompanying me to get the card holder. *hugs*
Hope the new month would be a better one for me.
Having some doubts, but i think i can only take it one step at a time.
Beebops is going to quit his job… And he hasn’t found a new job.
Sometimes i really don’t know what goes on in his mind.
I for one can never think of quitting a job without getting another job.
Moreover he has fixed liabilities. I only need to curb my urge for buying shoes and bags!
I never really bothered asking him about his finances in terms of his savings and spending but from my guesstimate, he doesnt have much savings. I wonder if he thought anything about our future. I wonder if he every did anything to prepare for the future. I wished sometimes i would care more about how he manages his money. But it’s just not me to care about how much he saves or what he does with his money. Spending half your pay on car installment is not some joking matter. I told him before he got his car, but instead he turned a deaf ear and insisted on getting it cos he loves it. Oh well what can i say.
At least i know what i am doing with my money, that’s most important to me.
Sometimes i hate to be restricted in terms of what to eat when we go out. I hate to be restricted by parking costs, erp charges and what’s not.
One day after branch closed and we did our usual kopi drinking at Broadway. Chitchatting with the boys. We talked about how we manage our finances and investments made. Then Adrian asked me what i spend my money on. Casually told them that it’s on clothes, shoes, bags and food. “Food?” Adrian asked. “Isn’t that supposed to be paid for by your bf?” Kelvin agreed.
Sadly, my bf doesn’t pay for my food. We go on dutch most of the time. And increasingly, i am paying for it. My reply, albeit heart wrenching was ” If my bf earns about the same as me and he has to pay for his car installments, i don’t think he can afford to pay for my food given my appetite.” Slapped by reality of my life. Gosh that hurts badly i tell u.
For my past few relationships i never had to pay for my food when i was out with my guy. It’s not about the money, it never is. But not being able to take care of such a simple part of my life is just so not right.
Oh well times have changed. I’ve got to depend on myself cos i know no one will be able to look after me financially.
