Diet & exercise

It has been two months since I started on an exercise routine with Jenn and the results are slowly starting to show.

But exercising is just one side of the story.

We didn’t quite scrutinize the food we have on our plates nor the drinks that we quench our thirsts with.

We both felt that we have hit a plateau in our routine and needed to start looking into the food that we eat so that we would be able to get rid of our stubborn fats!

We started on the diet and I have been sharing my daily meals on instagram.

My Internet connection should be up and running by the end of this week and I will be able to share in more details on the exercise and diet that we have adopted. ๐Ÿ™‚

I will be going for a hike at Bukit Timah Natures Reserve & a BBQ dinner tomorrow.

The Master Cleanse – Day 11

Went to the gym today and weighed myself.

Embarrassingly, I have not been controlling my diet as much as I should be after the completion of the master cleanse.

I now weigh 53.3kg, which is rather decent as the average weight gained once we start eating is about 2-3kg.

Now it is trying to maintain this weight with healthy moderate eating habits and regular exercise. ๐Ÿ™‚

The Master Cleanse – Day 8

There is a weighing machine in my hotel!

And I now weigh 51.8kg! Yeah! 2.7kg loss over 7 days!
I have been going to the gym for so long and have never lost more than 0.5kg. *bleahz*

Guess I will have to monitor my weigh gain once I start eating again. ๐Ÿ™‚

But I am a very happy girl for now.

The Master Cleanse – Day 7

It’ Sunday! And Day 7 of the master cleanse. And it is the last day of this detox!
I must say that I am quite proud of myself now for being able to complete a week of detox diet considering that this is the first diet that I have gone through in my whole life! I read that the recommended duration for beginners to this diet usually will last 3-5 days and I have two days more to the record!

Not only do I feel that I have a cleaner insides from the daily flushes, I also feel that my skin has lesser clogged pores that lead to zits and pimples. Admittedly, I am a little disappointed that I have to end this cleanse on the 7th day as I think my body could possibly benefit from another 2-3days of purging. But logistically, it was just not feasible with my travel plans tomorrow on.

Seriously, I think I might perform the master cleanse after Chinese New Year after all the gorging down of yummy bak kwas, melt in your mouth pineapple tarts, chinese sausages and all this delicious and of significance during Chinese New Year!

One question that I get asked is, have I lost any weight? Honestly, I don’t know. But what I do know is that my shoulders feel a little bonier, my hip bones are a little more obvious, my tummy is flatter (naturally since i havent been eating!) and my love handles seems just that little bit lesser. I guess it is more of a water loss than fat loss.

Tomorrow will be orange juice day!

The Master Cleanse – Day 6

I thought that the cleanse would be easier on a weekend since I didnt have much planned this weekend.

So no gatherings means no distractions, means no increased desire to eat.

However after so many days of not eating solids, I was yearning to bite on something. Something beyond the taste of a sweet-sourish-spicy drink. Don’t get me wrong the Lemonade drink is really very pleasant to drink but I guess I miss the feeling of chewing, the feeling of crispy food and something extremely flavourful.

I spent close to the whole day with Beebops and I was just watching him eat his food and imagining the taste of it! Not the most ideal of ways I guess as it would just lead to increased cravings and increased desire to break the whole diet. I should carry a magazine or book out to keep my mind off the food next time! Oh but I had a mini treat when Beebops was having dinner, i ordered Peppermint tea which coincidentally turns out to be Organic Peppermint tea. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The day was spent rather relaxed, walking around a bit and catching a movie.

The Master Cleanse – Day 5

Today I almost gave up on the detox.

I didn’t have a good night’s sleep as I kept waking up to a racing heart and aching muscles. I woke up in a morning with a severely splitting headache and was feeling very nausea. I don’t think that these were the side effects of the detox and it was rather impossible to feel something so strongly on the 5th day. I had have a heart not to go to work as I felt horrendous. But I had to drag myself to work no matter what as there were a million things that I had to attend to.

While waiting for my transport, I did a quick search on the net and read that this is due to the lack of sodium and potassium for the muscles. On route, I popped into a convenience store to pick up a bottle of Gatorade to replenish these two minerals. At that point in time, I had already decided to end my Master Cleanse due to the discomfort I was experiencing. After sipping down half a bottle of Gatorade, things went back to normal and I felt much much better. I guess it must have been the run yesterday that kinda drained my body from the sodium and potassium leading to me feeling like this in the morning.

In the office, when I told Jenn about my intentions of ending somehow she managed to convinced me to stick to the plan! As I had a business lunch on Friday, I had to nibble on some food as it would not be nice to not even touch a bit of the food. I continued with my lemonade later in the afternoon.

Somehow this comeback made me more determined to complete it properly and I am even trying to see if I could manage the master cleanse when I am overseas on Monday.

The Master Cleanse – Day 4

I must say that having a cup of herbal tea before bedtime is very relaxing and really soothes the nerves and prepares the mind for the resting later on.

I woke up feeling refreshed and not as much lethargy as before I went on a detox. My usual bed time is ~1am and I did not change that even during the detox. I guess I should at least make the efforts to sleep earlier since the body should need more rest so that it can concentrate on cleaning me up and healing itself.

It is amazing how I managed to get past 4 whole days with no so solid food. The new year goodies are already starting to fill up the office and seeing my favourite pineapple tarts a couple of times a day does not really help in my cravings. But maybe it is just how my brain has been conditioned all these years to reach out for a container of pineapple tarts when I see it.

Lunch times now are spent in a very relaxed mode. We no longer need to decide where to eat, what to eat, is it packed and the list goes on. Now thinking about it makes me feel stressed! We just head out of the office with our bottles of water and walk around! But no matter where we go, we will always end up with bottles of distilled water at the end of lunch time!

Remember in my first post about this diet that I mentioned that I will be going for a 7 days detox instead of the usually 10 days? I am beginning to think that 7 days is not enough! It may be a little too short for the body to cleanse properly and might cause me to have to redo it but at 10 days no less. Knowing that this cleanse didn’t leave me with withdrawal-like symptoms and I could concentrate perfectly at work, I was really motivated to complete the full 10 days. Jenn told me that she weighed herself and she was 2kg lighter! *claps claps* I wouldn’t be able to update on my weight as I do not have a weighing machine at home and I can only weigh myself in the gym. See with all these motivations around me, how can I not be tempted to go for another 3 days?

Today after work, I went for a very slow run with my colleagues and felt alright after the whole run.
