Life in Plastic, It’s Fantastic

Singapore, which is located along the equator, doesn’t have 4 seasons and not much variations in climatic temperature. Any indication of a change in season is only denoted by the volume of rainfall we get.

We get some rain and lower temperatures at the beginning of the year, hot and humid weather from March to October and rain and lots of rain from November to December. So much rain at the end of the year that the low lying areas become very susceptible to flooding.

And now we are in the midst of the rainy season and it pours every days for hours.

Footwear becomes a problem when you want to head outdoors. You don’t want them to get wet and clammy and smell like a fish market. You don’t want them to lose burst at the glued section from the exposure to the damp environment. I would love to be able to wear wellies everyday at the end of the year but it just doesn’t quite work out here in Singapore. Definitely not for work!

That is where Life in Plastic, is Fantastic!

And I am talking about these shoes..

Melissa is a Brazilian company specialising in plastic shoes since 1979.

Melissa shoes are made from a single material, melflex, which is molded via an injection process. This means that the factory has almost zero waste, glue is not required and the shoes are 100% recyclable. This also means that there are almost zero chances of the shoes splitting at the areas where it has been joined by glue!

Being plastic, keeping the shoes clean is a breeze as you can really wash out any dirt in the shoes and then air dry. Not forgetting the sweet characteristic scent of the shoes which means you will never have stinky shoes!

I recall once where I wore my Melissa shoes to work and my colleague commented that she smelled some smell and asked if I can smell it too. I told her it was my shoes and she rolled her eyes saying “It is a nice sweet smell”. My reply to her: “YES. It is my shoes! Smell it!” and I pushed my shoes nearer to her to let her have a whiff of it.

These Melissa wedges are perfect for work on a rainy day. Serious enough for work and functional enough for a wet day.

No needa worry about puddles, no needa worry about dirtying the shoes.

And on days when I do not want to be in heels, I opt for my flats with it’s exaggerated ribbon. πŸ™‚

I have been reaching out for it very frequently these days when I head to work as I don’t want to risk damaging any of my other heels.

They get a rest on the weekends though cos that is when I can reach for the wellies! πŸ™‚

I leave you with a video of the Autumn/Winter Collection of Melissa shoes
