Red Lunar New Year

What is Lunar New Year without the colour Red?

Red Packets! Red Decorations! Red Clothings!

As legend has it, there was a beast named Nian (年)that would go to the villages on the First Day of the Lunar New Year to damage crops and even hurt the villagers. And in order to protect themselves and their live stocks and crops from Nian, the villagers were dressed in red and the live stocks and crops had red adornments to ward off Nian, who was afraid of the colour red.

Well I didn’t wear red from head to toe on the first day of Chinese New Year but only had a red bag and some red embellishments on my cheongsam, I hope it was enough to protect me from any harm. 🙂

I did however wear a red dress on the third day of Chinese New Year ( 初三)when I went visiting.

I did have some winning at the gambling table. Maybe it was the red dress. 🙂
